Class 13 2020 - 2021
Class 13 have settled in to the College setting and have had a lot of fun so far this term.
As well as starting the Asdan Towards Independence accreditation, we have also worked on a number of AQA units which everyone has enjoyed. Our pupils have participated in a variety of different activities which satisfy Class 13’s sensory needs as well as their cognition and learning abilities. We use the Attention Autism strategy in most sessions to ensure lessons are clearly structured, using visuals and fun activities to promote and extend pupils’ concentration levels and support their range of vocabulary.
Our pupils all have an individualised sensory diet which they have access to throughout the school day. This may include using a foot spa, spending time in their own dark den, accessing the outside college gym, listening to music, dancing or playing with different textures and materials. Additionally, we do Tac Pac during Relaxation time and we are currently learning how to practise Deep Breathing techniques to also help us self-regulate.
As well as doing Literacy and Numeracy units as part of our Asdan work, we have made some lovely button mosaic pictures this half term, spent time learning how to fasten a button in Life Skills and joined in with lots of fun Drama games based on the story of Homer’s Odyssey. We have also made lavender bags and everyone had a turn at helping out with the sewing machine which was very popular. At the end of this half term, we celebrated Harvest by feeling and taste testing lots of different foods. We also celebrated Hallowe’en by trying on a spooky wig, finding eyeballs in a tray of sand and watching a Pumpkin being sick during our Attention Autism sessions. All great fun!
