Class 13 2022 - 2023
Mr James Brown
Class 13 have got a busy term ahead!
We’ve been completing a range of ASDAN Towards Independence modules so far, and hope to keep these up throughout the year. In ‘Using Leisure Time’ we’ve been having fun playing bowling as well as taking part in weekly yoga and mindfulness sessions. On a Wednesday we have also been visiting OJ’s club, where we have enjoyed taking part in Boccia, aerobics, dancing and karaoke. In ‘Business Enterprise’ we’ve been putting together a business plan to design, make and sell our own bookmarks. In ‘Meal Preparation and Cooking’ we’re going to begin making a range of hot and cold snacks and put into practice the kitchen hygiene rules we’ve been learning about.
In English some pupils have been engaging with a sensory story all about Jack and the Beanstalk, as well as building up communication through theme boards describing what they can see at different stages of the story. For those pupils on Functional Skills, we’re building up reading and comprehension with guided reading books on Twinkl’s ‘Rhino Readers’. We’ve also been looking at creative writing, and as a group are using visual stimuli to create a piece of creative writing each week. In Maths we have been learning about money and coin recognition. We’ve been using this in a practical setting with weekly shopping trips to Sainsbury’s in Longridge every Monday morning.
We’ve begun to explore a range of different internal work experience jobs around college and the grounds, whilst some pupils visit a local charity shop for external work experience on a rota basis. As the weather gets nicer over the Spring and Summer months we are hoping to begin work on a vegetable patch in the college grounds!
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
